Meet the Organizers of Session 6
- raffaella
- Feb. 4, 2026
Djangonaut Space is entirely run by volunteers to help new people join the community. As a session organiser, there is a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to create new spaces for Djangonauts.
To ensure a session runs smoothly, about six weeks of preparation are required beforehand.
Every session organizer has a specific area of interest.
Let me guide you through the team.
Navigator Coordinator - Daniel Okot
Daniel is responsible for all Navigators across the teams. The role of the Navigators is to help Djangonauts contribute to their project. The Navigator Coordinator, meanwhile, ensures that all Navigators are supported.
Daniel has contributed to Django Debug Toolbar during participation as session 5. He’s involved in the community participating at meetups and events. Daniel recharges batteries with some walking in nature, better with his dog.
Captain Coordinator - Aayush Gauba
Captains provide community guidance to the Djangonauts. Aayush will check periodically with the Captains to help to solve issues and support them.
Aayush is a developer with security and quantum-inspired AI. He spoke at DjangoCon US 2025 and was a Djangonaut at Session 5, contributing to Django Packages. In his free time, Aayush enjoys biking and watching TV series.
Djangonaut Coordinator - Rahmat Akintola
Rahmat will have a fine-grained impact because she will be responsible for all Djangonauts in the program. Having someone ask you, "Hey, how's your Djangonaut Space experience going?" can be very reassuring.
Rahmat is a software engineer and DPG technical adviser at Mest Africa. She has been a volunteer and speaker at PyLadiesCon 2025, a previous comms and technical writing lead at PyLadies Ghana and with Django as a member of the accessibility team. Rahmat likes to read web novels and experiment with new recipes.
Presentation Coordinator - Keanya Phelps
Throughout the session, there are various session-wide meetings, including our opening ceremony and guest speaker presentations. Keanya will prepare and facilitate these cosmic events.
Keanya was a Djangonaut in Session 1 and has been involved in the community since then. Was conference chair at DjangoCon US 2025 and will be returning to chair DjangoCon 2026. She is also a member of the python diversity and inclusion working group. She enjoys music festivals especially house music and all things Chicago.
Social media - Lidya Tilahun
Social media plays an important role in communicating what is happening in the session with the broader Django universe. Lidya will be our voice, spreading the word about all the initiatives and achievements of the Djangonauts during the session.
Lidya has been a Keynote at DjangoCon Africa 2025 where she shared experience about her community involvement as a leader in Ethiopia. Lidya is a DjangoCon US and Africa Organizer as well as a member of the DSF social media team.
Lidya has an excellent artistic streak and likes to craft arts.
Email and Discord Announcement - Raffaella Suardini & Tim Schilling
In an international community, asynchronous communication methods such as email are crucial for ensuring that everyone receives news. Tim & Raffaella will make sure that everyone gets notifications of new events and useful information during the session.
Raffaella has recently joined the admin team of Djangonaut Space. She has been a volunteer for PyLadiesCon 2025, a coach for Django Girls+, and a PyCon Italia organizer. She likes crocheting, watching TV series, and tasting different foods while traveling.
Tim is another one of the admins for Djangonaut Space. He’s also an admin for Django Commons and a member of the Django 6.x Steering Council. Outside of Django (is there such a thing?), he roasts coffee, ferments peppers for hot sauce, bakes bread, and is learning to play the violin.
